Life had taken a normal course for me , being a married man and working as a lab technician , until I fell ill a year back .I had to shop for a proper diagnosis for a year and resorted to various forms of treatment ,Alopathy and Siddha .Finally ,at CSI Kalyani ,I was diagnosed with spine TB by a panel of doctors .
It was there that I was put on the DOTS regimen through the NGO called REACH .The clinical counseling offered by the field worker of REACH has gone a long way in my recovery .Her continuous home visits .and her thrust on the need to follow the doctors advice has encouraged me towards completion of treatment .The component of directly observing treatment thrice a week in the IP phase is a very useful technique.
A few months back I could hardly walk, but now I am feeling much better and my body weight has also increased .Being a positive minded person, the fact that I was diagnosed with TB did not pull me down, instead I am battling the disease by adhering to treatment and consuming a healthy diet .This is also what I would suggest to other TB patients. I am happy to state that I have not encountered any form of stigma due to the disease.

Two months back (September 2008) I came to know that I was affected with TB .A deep sense of fear over took me and I thought my life had come to a standstill .It was then that I came to know about the REACH DOTS centre .The REACH staff came to my house and explained in detail about how TB is curable through regular intake of the prescribed drugs and healthy food .They helped me overcome my fear and started me on treatment .At present I am taking my drugs regularly .I am relieved from cough and I am also feeling much healthier physically and mentally .Thanks to the REACH DOTS centre for taking care of me .
